If I had to pay someone to fix the car it would’ve been extremely expensive to maintain and on a couple of occasions the car was still down for a few weeks ( I had to source a radiator- no longer available) and the harmonic balance had to be rebuilt ( 6 weeks) to the fuel pump assy ( 3 months as I had to source parts from Europe and hand rebuild the sending unit as it’s no longer available) That said part 2 while I haven’t found most of the parts to be any more expensive than my my F150 or my Jeep Wrangler that’s not to say they are cheap. That said I am a master mechanic with then over 25 (now 35) years experience working on cars so I have no issue doing all the work myself. Life’s too short to commute in a shit box and all that. I bought my XJ6 about 10 years ago (still have it) and used it as my commuter car for a long time. There is nothing more expensive than an inexpensive luxury car. In fact, my Jags have proven to be more reliable than my buddy’s Jeep Wrangler…which admittedly isn’t hard to do but still. ![]() So if you’re used to luxury cars, high performance cars or even large capable SUVs or Pickups, you won’t notice a difference. ![]() Sometimes it was two or three times more for a product that really wasn’t very different than the Jaguar equivalent. I was running a Mercedes V8 for awhile, and I often found the Mercedes parts, whether from the dealer or third party, were often far more expensive than the Jaguar parts. But in comparison to other luxury performance brands? Often Jaguar maintenance is a lot more affordable. However, on the other side of the coin, Jaguars do tend to be “affordable” - if your coming from a mainstream brand, then obviously it’ll cost a lot. But be honest if you can afford it, because a Jaguar that’s not well taken care of WILL bite you. Bigger engine translates into bigger oil expenses, and Jags do better on synthetic. A 4.0 or 4.2 L V8 will eat a lot more fuel, for example, and you WILL need to run premium fuel through it. ![]() If you maintain them properly, they’ll be every bit as reliable as that Toyota, but of course, will cost more. Parts will most assuredly cost more on an XK8 then on a Toyota Corrolla of the same vintage. It’s a name that competes with Ferrari, Aston Martin, Porsche, Maserati and Bentley caliber cars - they are a cut above, and as a result, even DIY maintenance is at a premium. A big Jaguar is a $100,000.00 luxury performance car when all is said and done. Great engine, great gear box, reasonably solid design, and all round enjoyable.īut don’t go in with rose coloured glasses. Mechanically speaking, assuming the maintenance has been performed properly throughout its life, it’s completely fine. To most people, it’s an mere annoyance at worst.
